John Langdon Kenney, age 89, of Gilford, passed away on Oct. 27, 2026, at the Hospice House in Concord.

John grew up in Chichester, son of C. Langdon Kenney and Viola (Kenney) Bailey. As a teenager he learned how to fix cars in Pittsfield, then went on to have a long career as an auto mechanic, retiring in his 70s. John’s family, friends, employers and customers all said that John was a genius when it came to knowing what was wrong with an engine and knowing how to fix it.

He enjoyed old cars, camping, and the companionship of his dog. Family was very important to him, and he loved attending parties where he could be with them all. Neighbors benefitted from his generosity in mowing their lawns and doing odd jobs.

John is survived by his son Dennis Kenney; daughter Julie Bowler and husband Lance and their son Brian and his wife Amanda; son Robert Kenney and wife Suzanne and their daughter Kristen; five great-grandchildren; half-sisters Kathi Connors, Linda Kenney-Janosz and Patricia Prive; niece Joan Foss and nephews David and Steven Foss. He was predeceased by his life partner Patricia Downes, and his sister Bettie Foss.

There will be a family graveside service in the spring.
