CONCORD — Carmen Doucette, 83, passed away on July 2, 2022 at the Presidential Oaks Nursing Home in Concord. She was born in Gloucester, MA, on November 15, 1939, to Karl and Leonie (McLellan) Amazeen. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1953.
Carmen was predeceased by her three older brothers, Frank, Donald and Charlie Amazeen. She was also predeceased by her daughter Robin Lee Hewitt Reynolds, who died on July 5, 1995.
She leaves behind a son, Paul Hewitt; a daughter, Mary Pratt; and granddaughter Jillian Reynolds, whom she raised from the age of 18 months after losing both parents, Robin and Ralph Reynolds, to murder/suicide in 1990. Carmen also had several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carmen was a long-time resident of Lakeport who loved her “old homestead” as she called it. During good weather she would spend countless hours working around her property, landscaping and gardening. Her property overlooked Paugus Bay and she would enjoy evenings sitting out on her screened-in deck drinking coffee and doing a puzzle.
Carmen worked at the Gilford Walmart from the time of their grand opening until 2015 when she retired.
After losing her daughter Robin, Carmen got involved with POMC (Parents of Murdered Children). She started a chapter in Laconia where parents could meet once a month to support each other. She fought hard with the City of Laconia and Parks and Recreation to start a memorial garden in Stewart Park, with victims’ names and dates engraved on bricks, which was unveiled in September 2011.
Carmen was a person with a big heart who was always willing to help someone in need or would volunteer her time to any occasion.
