FRANKLIN — Veterans Memorial Ski Area in Franklin is open for its 56th year of traditional New England skiing. Open to to the public 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting, it features six trails accessed by a rope tow and T bar.
In keeping with New England tradition, the ski area also boasts a snack bar with burgers, fries, dogs, chips and drinks.
Run by Franklin Outing Club's crew of dedicated volunteers and accredited ski patrollers, the ski area keeps on schussing with some great winter carnival events: Casserole supper followed by bonfire and sledding $5, public welcome, $2 for Franklin Outing Club members, on Saturday, Jan. 28, 5 to 8 p.m. Pancake breakfast 8:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, $5 per adult/$2 per kid under 12 (public and FOC members welcome). Olde tyme cardboard box races for kids begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, (register by noon), and challenge yourself with a fun alpine ski/snowboard race at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, (no prior racing experience needed). And new this year, Kayak Races on main slope in front of the lodge in case you missed your run on the Winnipesaukee River! Spectators welcome on the outdoor deck.
