MOULTONBOROUGH — The Town of Moultonborough citizens have been “weed watching” for over 10 years. First, folks are trained in identifying invasive and native weeds. Then they paddle about with “eyes on the water” reporting what they see. Once it is determined they spotted a growth of invasive weeks, DASH boat divers are scheduled to professionally remove the invasive weed.
If a large amount of invasive weed is discovered, chemical treatment may be recommended by NH Department of Environmental Services. Once you are trained, at your convenience, you paddle around your area of the lake and collect GPS points of the located weeds. Next, you send those GPS points to the Weed Watcher Manager and she in turn sends them to the DASH divers to add to their schedule.
The Town of Moultonborough has been successful in controlling and keeping the invasive weed, Milfoil, under control, but they need your eyes on the water to continue this program. They are planning three training sessions on the water. Email the Weed Watcher Manager to sign up for training. (Bev Nelson at MBweedwatchers@gmail.com)
