ALTON — The tone was set immediately on Senior Night as the Prospect Mountain Timberwolves overwhelmed the Newfound Bears with relentless defensive pressure, cruising to a dominant 66-20 Division III victory Thursday night.

Prospect Mountain forced nine first-quarter steals and capitalized on 12 Newfound turnovers in the opening frame, racing out to a commanding 20-3 advantage. The Timberwolves’ defensive intensity never let up, as they finished the night forcing 43 turnovers, including 23 steals, consistently turning defense into efficient transition offense.

By halftime, Prospect Mountain had built a 36-13 lead, sending the packed Prospect Mountain High School gymnasium into celebration well before the second half began.

The Timberwolves continued their suffocating play after the break, holding Newfound to just 7 second-half points. With the outcome well in hand, the Prospect Mountain coaching staff emptied the bench early, and the reserves sustained the team’s momentum. The Timberwolves extended their lead to 50-17 by the end of the third quarter.

Newfound struggled to find any rhythm down the stretch as Prospect Mountain closed the game with a 16-3 fourth quarter, sealing the 66-20 victory.

With the win, the Timberwolves improved to 12-3 on the season and secured their third straight victory.
