CENTER HARBOR — Nichols Library is adding new titles in the life lived genres of memoir and biography. Come check the stories of some remarkable individuals including the recently added works on: Billie Jean King All In, Suleika Jaouad Between Two Kingdoms, Glennon Doyle Untamed, and Tarana Burke Unbound. The Nonfiction stacks behind the circulation desk hold a bevy of other stories about other famous individuals – both beloved and scorned.
This week’s library shout out goes to Louise Laplante and her daughter Cathy. Growing up in Meredith, Louise recalls getting her first library card around age 6 or 7. Once married, her library preference shifted to Center Harbor and the J. E. Nichols Library where she and her family have been borrowing books and materials for over 70 years. Louise is a fan of mystery and suspense with David Baldacci, John Grisham, and Robert Parker among her favorite authors. Her daughter Cathy, reminisced over reading The Hardy Boys series as a child and regular visits to the library using the shared “family card.” Mom and daughter share the card to this day. Cathy is partial to audio books these days, and enjoys authors Clive Cussler, Preston-Childs, and Dan Brown.
Interested in being part of the library team at Nichols? The library is looking for a part-time library assistant who loves to read and enjoys working with people and books. Visit our website for a job description and information on how to apply: centerharborlibrary.org.
The library is now open four days a week — Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside pick-up is available as well. Due to increasing COVID case numbers, masks are required in the library at this time.
