LACONIA — NH Farm to School in the Lakes Region welcomes Sara Murphy, a University of New Hampshire Dietetic Intern to the program as part of her NH Farm to School community nutrition experience. Sara will be providing in-class education at Holy Trinity School in Laconia utilizing the NH Harvest of the Month program as well as offering professional development to teachers on the use of school gardens as classrooms. At the Southwick School in Northfield, Sara will be working with educator Brian Winslow and food service director Rob Cohen to help plan for greenhouse food production and connect with farmers to bring more local foods into their school meal programs.
The Farm to School program is designed to create opportunities to bring locally grown foods into the school environment coupled with a student friendly exposure to the connections bridging farming/gardening, nutrition, and making healthy food choices. Farm to School in the Lakes Region is coordinated by Lisa Morin of the Belknap County Conservation District in partnership with several local organizations and agencies. If you are interested in learning more about Farm to School in the Lakes Region or want to get involved, please contact Lisa Morin at lisa.morin@nh.nacdnet.net or telephone (603) 527-5880.
