SANBORNTON — After reading the book “Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade" by Melissa Sweet, Sanbornton Central School kindergarten students designed balloons representing their favorite characters and marched throughout the school sharing their creations with students and staff.   The book tells the story of the puppeteer who invented the giant balloons that are such a special part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

After reading the story of Sarg, each child conceptualized and constructed their own unique balloon character using recycled materials, cardboard, and lightweight fabric. The project required them to consider balance, scale and structure, transforming simple craft materials into monumental, parade-worthy figures

The book also offers positive messages about finding inner talent, problem solving, perseverance and the positive impact art can have on the lives of many.  The students enjoyed creating their own Thanksgiving Parade and the cheers from the bystanders could be heard throughout the building.
