ALTON — Prospect Mountain continued its defensive dominance Friday night, earning a decisive 65-24 home-opening victory over Division III opponent Winnisquam Regional.

The game opened at a deliberate pace, with the Timberwolves holding a narrow 13-8 lead after the first quarter. Momentum shifted quickly in the second quarter as senior captain Paige Harding sparked the team on both ends of the floor, recording three steals and seven points in the period. Prospect Mountain’s defense clamped down, allowing just two points in the second quarter, and the Timberwolves entered halftime with a commanding 32-10 advantage.

The defensive pressure continued throughout the second half, as Prospect Mountain limited Winnisquam to 14 total points while adding 33 of its own to secure the win.

Despite limited minutes due to foul trouble, Kourtney Kaplan led the Timberwolves for the third straight game with 21 points, six steals, and one block. Harding finished with a complete performance, posting nine points, five assists, five rebounds, and 10 steals.

Delaney Drolet contributed eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Madelyn Howlett added seven points and six assists. Ava Foster and Leah Gard scored six points each, with Foster also recording seven rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Freshman Ashlynn Roberts scored her first varsity points, finishing with two points and one assist.

Prospect Mountain will be back in action at the Mike Lee Holiday Basketball Tournament in Farmington, Dec. 26-30.
