BRISTOL — Donna Miller will introduce attendees to native plants and guide you through this six-step process of winter sowing at the Pasquaney Garden Club meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. at Minot-Sleeper Library in Bristol.
As part of this program, the presenter will demonstrate how to pot native seeds for overwintering so attendees can independently do winter seed sowing anytime November through February.
Miller has been passionate about plants and gardening since childhood. She currently grows and sells cut flowers with her husband Jim at their Canterbury farm, Petals in the Pines. In 2010, she became a master gardener and her interests expanded to encouraging pollinators and native plants. In 2021, she became an advanced master gardener specializing in pollinators.
At Petals in the Pines, they have established two meadows, initially by parking the lawnmower in the shed. Additional native species are planted each year to create a desirable home for pollinators. The farm is certified as a Monarch Way Station with Monarch Watch, a Zerces Society certified pollinator habitat, and now, they are “On the Map” with Homegrown National Park. All of these programs support efforts to protect pollinators and native plants.
Some members of Pasquaney Garden Club are also master gardeners and master gardener volunteers. The master gardener programs, like the one Miller will present provide access to expertise and awareness of gardening and environmental issues.
Pasquaney garden club members and guest volunteers will do a fall cleanup in the Butterfly Garden behind Minot-Sleeper Library on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 9-11 a.m.
