GILFORD — Opechee Garden Club will host the program Putting the Garden to Bed on Monday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m., at Gilford Community Church, 2 Potter Hill Road.
During the presentation attendees will learn the steps necessary to properly prepare a garden for winter, including finishing off annuals and vegetable beds, preparing perennial beds to reduce pests and disease, overwintering non-hardy plants, readying ornamental shrubs and evergreens to survive various winter conditions, and tending to tools and supplies.
The program will be presented by Ron Twexler who has been a UNH Extension master gardener since 2016 and has achieved the level of advanced master gardener.
He is involved in the training and mentoring of new master gardeners, who wish to participate in the Masters Gardeners Speaker Bureau, and regularly presents to libraries, garden clubs and community
organizations. In addition, he serves in a leadership position with the Hooksett Garden Club and serves on the Executive Board of New Hampshire Federation of Garden Clubs.
