WOLFEBORO — Makers Mill is inviting the community to explore the art of jewelry-making with a series of hands-on classes this winter and early spring, led by skilled local and nationally recognized instructors in the Makers Mill Jewelry & Metalsmithing Shop.
The upcoming lineup begins with Unisex Overlay Cuff Bracelet on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., taught by metalsmith Deborah Ryan. This class reflects Makers Mill’s philosophy of reuse and accessibility, highlighting brass and copper as beautiful, affordable alternatives to silver and gold. Students will learn how reclaimed and scrap metal, often left over from other projects, can be transformed into striking wearable art while picking up practical tips for working with different metals and their unique properties. The all-gender design is intentionally welcoming to anyone interested in learning foundational metalsmithing skills.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, from noon to 3 p.m., Ryan also leads an expanded and refreshed Stacking Rings class. This workshop introduces students to working with an acetylene/air torch to create and texture a set of rings. New elements include the option to add bezel-set gemstones, offering fresh creative possibilities for both new and returning students.
In March, Makers Mill welcomes nationally-renowned metalsmith Joy Raskin for Resin Inlay Jewelry on Saturday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Instead of traditional stones, participants will experiment with colorful resin inlays using pigments, herbs, glitter, and other unexpected materials, resulting in vibrant, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.
Rounding out the season, Deborah Ryan returns with Forged Wire Cuff Bracelets on Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This class focuses on shaping and forging heavy-gauge wire into a variety of cuff bracelet styles, from classic forms to original designs.
All classes take place at Makers Mill, 23 Bay Street in Wolfeboro. Registration fees vary by class, with member discounts available. Materials fees are payable directly to instructors on the day of class.
