LACONIA — On Friday, Oct. 23, the Knights of Columbus dedicated a monument and flagpole to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. The ceremony began with a welcome from Father Marc Drouin, the Knights of Columbus chaplain of the third degree and pastor of Saint Andre Bessette parish.

Laconia Mayor Mike Bordes spoke with gratitude for the men and women who gave their lives for our country. His presentation was very moving. Also present were Mark Messier, state deputy for the New Hampshire Knights of Columbus followed, by Dr. Jay Morris, the district master for the patriotic degree of the Knights of Columbus.

The blessing of the monument and prayers and benediction were performed by Monsignor Gerald Belanger, the chaplain of the Monsignor Sliney Assembly 628 of the Knights of Columbus.

The state deputy stated that this monument will be used as a model for other councils throughout the state to use in commemorating our veterans and the sacrifice they have and are making to keep our country safe and free.
