Come hear the “buzz” about honeybees Friday, May 18, 10 a.m.-noon., presented by beekeeper Heather Achilles.
Did you know that up to 60,000 bees live in a hive in the summer, that they don’t hibernate in the winter or that honeybees or that they pollinate about 1/3 of the crops produced in the U.S.?
This interactive talk will give an overview of honeybees including the different “jobs” they have, how they collect nectar and pollen, the challenges they face from mites and a decline food sources, how beekeepers extract honey for all of us to enjoy and how gardeners can help the honeybees. Honey and other bee products will be available.
