MOULTONBOROUGH — Calling all potted plant enthusiasts and floral fans. The Moultonborough Public Library will host an evening event delving into the details of houseplant maintenance on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Marianne Nicastro from The Boro’s Floral Boutique, a flower shop in Moultonborough that opened in May 2024, will offer a presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. Nicastro obtained a degree in horticulture and a certificate in floral artistry, and her talk will offer an opportunity to learn from her experience in planting.
Viewers will learn about the right accommodations for their indoor plants to thrive, such as information on pot sizing, proper support for climbing plants and the best practices for materials usage, from perlite to peat moss and beyond. The presentation will also further the viewer’s understanding of plant health, offering tips on watering schedules during the winter versus the summer, and identifying root rot and fungal infections.
Additionally, the library will launch its houseplant clipping swap at the event. Attendees may bring healthy clippings from their own houseplants to swap with each other. Nicastro will also offer tips on propagating houseplants. The library plans to hold the clipping swap as an ongoing initiative on a windowsill in the library.
