BHS student interns at Belmont Fire Department

Michael Annis, a senior at Belmont High School, just completed a six-month long extended learning opportunity working as an intern with the Belmont Fire Department. Under the supervision of Assistant Chief Deborah Black and Lieutenant Josh Huestis, he spent approximately one afternoon per week at the Fire Department, helping with basic chores, participating in some training exercises, and going on ride-alongs. He gave his final presentation at school at the end of October; this consisted of a Google Slides research project as well as — outside in the parking lot — a demonstration of what he has learned about "hose and nozzle management." As a result of his work, Michael will earn a 1/2 elective credit on his school transcript. (Courtesy photo)
