MOULTONBOROUGH — As part of the Tuesday Night Series, on July 1 at 7 p.m., the Moultonborough Public Library will host a presentation on the Civil Air Patrol and its importance in search and rescue missions.

The Civil Air Patrol is a federally-funded, aviation-minded volunteer organization. CAP provides emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs on a national level. One of their many services is assisting agencies like Fish and Game with search and rescue missions.

Representing CAP will be Col. Bill Moran, a New Hampshire resident and retired United States Air Force Colonel after 52 years of piloting service.

Moran was the pilot assigned for the air mission to find Kate Matrosova, experienced hiker and subject of Ty Gagne’s first book, “Where You’ll Find Me.” In addition to introducing the work of the Civil Air Patrol, Moran will speak of his experience during the search mission for Matrosova. The presentation will touch on subjects like how the Civil Air Patrol became involved; the resources, aircraft, search equipment, and aircrews used; the extreme conditions faced, such as 110 mph winds; processing satellite data from the Personal Locator Beacon Matrosova was wearing; and more.
