2 Lakes Region women win art scholarships

CONCORD — Each year, the New Hampshire Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art awards an annual scholarship to one or more female-identified NH resident majoring in the visual arts at an accredited NH college or university.

From the 13 applications submitted, jurors selected three students to receive awards with a tie for first place between Audrey Thurston, of Gilmanton, a fine arts major at New England College and Jocelyn Roache, of Belmont, majoring in art education at Plymouth State University. Each will receive $2,000 toward their fall tuition. Johanna Huezo, of Manchester, placed second and will receive $1,000 toward fall tuition at the Institute of Art and Design of New England College.

In addition to tuition support, first place winners receive a complimentary one-year membership in the New Hampshire Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art. This gives the students the opportunity to participate in exhibitions and other programming alongside established artists to further support their budding career in the arts.

“While we were thrilled to receive so many submissions this year, I think it reflects the growing financial need in support of the arts," said Chapter President Lisa Almeida. "We are delighted to play a small part in the development of young NH artists.”
