To The Daily Sun,

The Meredith Altrusa Club would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to three local businesses who helped our float committee be able to create our float for Meredith’s 250th Anniversary Parade.

We want to thank Nick Leighton of Overhead Door Options, who so graciously let us use his shiny white pick-up truck which was decorated to match our theme. Because Altrusa International is 101 years old, this year the committee decided to go with the well-known Disney movie “101 Dalmatians” theme. Without the use of his truck the committee (Paula, Linda, Barbara, Kelly, Monica and Jodi) would have had to walk the whole route of the parade but instead sat comfortably in chairs in their Dalmatian costumes in the truck bed.

Annie Paquette of Paquette Signs donated four large magnetic signs imprinted with our clubs’ mantra for this year’s theme “101 Years of Community Service.” Having these magnetic signs meant that we could identify who we are and made it so that we would not mar or leave any marks on the truck.

Michelle of Dockside Florist donated 200 blue and white balloons which are Altrusa’s designated colors. Not only did she donate the balloons but she took the time to blow them all up and tied each one so that all the committee had to do was attach them to the arch they created to finish off the end of the float. That saved them a lot of time and their own hot air!

The old African proverb “It Takes a Village….” is so appropriate as our local businesses work and donate to many projects and events year round. Where would this town be without the generosity of the local businesses? Time and again local businesses give to many, many causes that enhance our towns and make them a real community.
