To The Daily Sun,
The truth matters and it saddens me that my opponent has resorted to lying to voters in order to be re-elected. I am opposed to an income tax and if you take a look at his most recent letter, he doesn’t spend much time trying to refute that point. He knows I oppose an income tax.
In this recent letter, he claims that I support an income tax because I support the Paid Family & Medical Leave legislation. The Paid Family & Medical Leave legislation is not an income tax. It does not tax income. This legislation could have greatly reduced the burden on working families as the coronavirus passed through our state. Despite that, Giuda voted against this legislation in the midst of a pandemic.
The local property taxes did increase 18%, but this was because of the downshifting that Giuda seems to condone. So, which is it? Was there an economic boom that the towns should have capitalized on, or will we need to continue carrying the burden of a budget shortfall? Why was the burden not lessened across the district's towns in your tenure? This is the same excuse that was given when shared revenue was taken back by the state after the economic collapse in 2009.
Our property taxes have not decreased since you took office four years ago and, despite your shaming the town of Plymouth, property taxes are a problem in all of the other 26 towns in the district that have not been adequately addressed by our representation in Concord.
I will fight to reduce the burden of property taxes in all 27 towns in District 2, not just Plymouth. I ask for your vote on Nov. 3 so I can fight to reverse the irresponsible downshifting and bring civility back to Concord.
