To The Daily Sun,
A recent letter implored our state government to create mandates to address climate change. Aside from the fact that government mandates are anathema to freedom, we should consider whether or not such mandates would make a difference. Planet Earth has a surface area of 196.9 million square miles, 9,350 of which are within New Hampshire's borders. If my math is right, NH is .000047% of Earth's surface area. Some 8.2 billion people live on Earth, of which only 1.37 million live in NH. If my math is right, NH's population is .00017% of the world total. Such numbers demonstrate that New Hampshire's contribution to climate change is statistically insignificant. Indeed, NH and its residents could evaporate today and the global climate would be unaffected. Pretending that ineffective "solutions" such as state government mandates, electric vehicles, solar farms and wind turbines can make a dime's worth of difference is pure fantasy.
