Councilor Eric Hoffman: 3 years on city council is preparation for Statehouse

I’m Eric Hoffman and I am running for state representative in Laconia.

Over the past almost three years now, on the Laconia City Council I have seen how the decisions they make in Concord affect the city budget, property taxes, and the public school system. The state continues to cut revenue while increasing spending, downshifting costs to local municipalities. The result is apparent every time residents get their tax bill. Things need to change.

Most people agree that housing is a top issue in New Hampshire, but this is not a new problem anymore. What has been done about it? Housing programs created and then underfunded. Local control overridden by state mandates. It’s not working, it’s not right, and things need to change.

The state continues to ignore supreme court rulings calling for adequate education funding, meanwhile taxpayer money is diverted from public schools to private and religious schools, out-of-state for-profit corporations, even karate classes and pony rides. School taxes belong in schools, and things really need to change.

I am not a career politician, I am an engineer. I make decisions based on data, and seek realistic solutions, and to me, measurable results matter. I listen to people, and stand up for their interests. Unlike many state reps., I am not wealthy, and I am not retired. I am in the middle of the same struggle readers are. I got into politics to fight for the middle class. The working class built this country, and now our government no longer works for us. In November, I ask for readers' votes.
