CENTER HARBOR — Slippery road conditions were to blame in a single-car accident that sent the driver to the hospital on Sunday night.
Police Chief Mark Chase said an accident took place in the area of 586 Dane Road, which is Route 25 B, at 9:55 p.m. on March 23. Officer Steven Marsh responded to a call that said the driver was trapped, but said upon arriving at the crash, the driver was having difficulty opening the door due to a blow to the head.
“It wasn’t really entrapment, but he hit his head, and was bleeding pretty good,” Marsh said.
Marsh said he had just notified the New Hampshire Department of Transportation the roads needed to be treated before the crash occurred. This is a sharp corner, and the vehicle slid off the road, and crashed into a tree stump, causing the airbags to deploy.
The male driver was taken by ambulance to Concord Hospital-Laconia. The female passenger declined to be taken, and went the following day to get her leg checked out. Marsh spoke with the passenger on March 24, and she said the driver had been stitched up and released after sustaining a “laceration and a couple fractures.”
Marsh said the roads got “extremely slippery, really fast” that night, and he does not believe speed, impairment or distracted driving contributed to the crash.
