GILFORD — The Gilford Rotary Club is selling Christmas trees at Fireside Inn & Suites through Sunday, Dec. 7, to raise money for local charities like food pantries, Got Lunch! and others.
The sale takes place in the inn's lot, located at 17 Harris Shore Road off Route 11, and across from Patrick’s Pub & Eatery. It’s the club's 39th season selling Christmas trees, and volunteers will be there from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and from noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
“We go for a week, we just started today,” Rotary member John Degroot said Friday afternoon.
They’ve got Christmas trees, cut fresh last week in the North Country, and wreaths available for purchase. Tree prices depend on size. They’re balsam and Fraser firs of healthy stature.
By 2:30 p.m. Friday, the group had sold about 75 trees. They started selling trees on Friday, and will continue through Dec. 7.
“All these trees come from Colebrook,” Rotary member Larry Wahlstrom said. “They’re fresh, they’re beautiful and they’re heavy.”
In a small trailer on the lot, the Rotary has snacks and refreshments available for visitors.
“Today’s been very good and we’ve sold a lot of trees,” Degroot said. “They were fresh-cut last week.”
“We were busy this morning,” Wahlstrom said. “We’re all volunteers.”
