FRANKLIN — A family of five who lost their home in a fire this month is asking for the community's help.

The Newman family started an online fundraiser after they lost their family home in a fire caused by dry and windy conditions on May 4.

“Right now, our focus is on taking things one day at a time, and helping our family recover and rebuild,” Melissa Newman said.

Newman and the family appreciate support from the community to help them get through the loss.

“The kindness, donations, meals, and support people have shown us have meant more than we can express,” Newman said.

Fire Chief Michael Foss said he got a call about a fire at 2:19 p.m. on May 4, in a carport, which reportedly blew down Hunt Avenue and toward the Newmans' home.

There were no injuries to the people or animals who lived in the home. Alex Newman, an adult male resident, was the only person home at the time of the fire, along with the family’s two dogs. Franklin Fire and Police departments responded to the scene, along with Concord, Belmont, Bristol, Sanbornton and Tilton-Northfield fire companies, and Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association. Boscawen Fire and New Hampton Ambulance offered station coverage. State Police also responded to the scene.

The family, which includes Alex and Melissa Newman and their children James, age 12; Michael, age 3; Nina, 9 months old; and their two dogs, are currently living in a hotel as they wait for next steps.
