Staff, students, alumni and community members gathered for a ribbon cutting and ceremony for a new electronic sign in the Inter-Lakes High School cafeteria on Thursday afternoon. The sign was installed following a donation of $34,000 by former Inter-Lakes Assistant Principal Bill Athanas, who served in that role for 21 years, after 30 years before that at Franklin High School. Athanas asked Director of Facilities Brian Swanker about getting a new sign. Swanker said the school had already made a new, non-electronic sign, due to cost. Athanas took it upon himself to purchase the electronic sign, now installed with the new design. Superintendent Mary Moriarty spoke during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Mr. Anthanas has dedicated his life to serving school communities, and this sign stands as a vital testament in his given nature, this remarkable gift, along with over five decades. Five decades of selflessness and care for adolescents, families, communities and educators, reflects Mr. Athanas is truly authentic and an altruistic spirit.”
