LACONIA — The City Council will take up a suggestion on May 14 to name Room 200-A at City Hall the “Armand J. Bolduc City Council Chamber” in honor of the long-serving councilor and former mayor who died on April 1.
The second-floor room, which serves as the City Council’s meeting room, is only designated as Room 200-A. At the City Council’s April 23 meeting, Ward 5 Councilor Bob Hamel proposed naming the room after Bolduc.
Such action was not on the meeting agenda, and Mayor Ed Engler asked the clerk to place it on the agenda for May 14.
Bolduc served 34 years as a member the City Council, having been re-elected to another term last fall. He simultaneously served as mayor in 1984 and 1985, and he filled in as mayor pro-tem on a number of occasions.
He was 78 at the time of his death, having lived his entire life as a resident of the Lakes Region.
In addition to his role on the City Council, Bolduc was a farmer and had worked as an engraver and sales representative in local businesses. He was an incorporator of Lakes Region General Hospital and served on a number of community projects.
One of his most memorable roles was as “Twinkle” the Elf while serving as co-chairman of Laconia’s Christmas Village for more than 30 years.
