GILFORD — A fire that started in an electric recliner on Saturday caused injuries to three people and significantly damaged their home.
Gilford Fire Department reported being called to a home at 128 Old Lakeshore Road at 1:41 p.m. on March 29, with the initial report stating only that a smoke detector was sounding.
The first crew to respond arrived to see smoke coming from the single-story, wood-framed home, and one of the occupants was attempting to extinguish the fire.
The fire appeared to have started in an electric recliner chair that was on an enclosed porch, then spread to involve the surrounding structure.
The fire eventually damaged the porch as well as the kitchen, and the rest of the house sustained extensive smoke damage.
There were three occupants in the home at the time of the fire. Two were transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia for evaluation, while the third occupant declined transport, though they did suffer minor burn injuries.
No firefighters were harmed during the fighting of the fire, which was the third consecutive event in the afternoon. The residents’ dogs were safely relocated to the garage during the fighting of the fire.
Gilford received support on the scene from Laconia Fire Department as well as Gilford police. Sanbornton and Franklin companies assisted with station coverage.
