State Rep. Bryan Morse (R-Franklin) says he does not intend to resign his seat in the wake of his arrest on so-called "revenge porn" allegations on Thursday, and will work to clear his name.

“Considering I haven’t done anything wrong, I’m not going to resign,” Morse said Friday afternoon.

Morse said he is in frequent contact with New Hampshire House leadership regarding the allegations against him, and will cooperate with any arrangements they agree are necessary. He said they’ve also agreed he does not need to resign.

“I’ve been in touch with them this entire process,” Morse said.

Morse said he’s been made aware of previous allegations levied against others by the person who named him in a sworn affidavit to police, which he said was used as the basis for a warrant for his arrest. He said he was in New Orleans for an education summit when a family friend, who is an attorney, informed him of the existence of the warrant, after learning about it from local detectives.

“This case is bogus to begin with,” he said.

He returned to New Hampshire, and turned himself in on Thursday in Nashua.

His accuser is someone who Morse has spoken to once about House Bill 324, relative to prohibiting obscene or harmful sexual materials in schools, he said, and is not a former romantic partner. He suspects this person levied accusations against him in order to promote an online profile for their own benefit, and he does not know which social media website is referred to in the allegation.

“I have no idea,” Morse said. “I haven’t been given any information, other than an accusation.”

Morse said he will attend his December court date, though he’d be surprised if Nashua police continue their prosecution, citing a lack of evidence and credibility. In the meantime, those accusations have “uprooted” his life and that of his family, he said, calling it “the worst thing that can be done to anyone.” In the meantime, Morse is fundraising for a legal defense and would consider filing a counter-suit.

“I’m innocent, and I will be proven such,” Morse said.
