Ruth Lea Hunkins-Wrigley, 79, of Benton Drive, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on April 23, 1946, in Laconia, to Dana William Hunkins and Arlene Iona (Little) Hunkins, Ruth later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
After her military service, Ruth pursued higher education, earning a master of arts in management and procurement and acquisitions management from Webster University. She applied what she learned across all aspects of her life, demonstrating hard work and dedication throughout her career, including 25 years as vice president of the National Association of Government Employees.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, she was loving and attentive, enjoyed working on her flowerbeds, and grew vegetables each summer for her family. Her roots remained in Gilmanton, where she cherished walking barefoot through the blueberry fields as a child.
Ruth is survived by her son, Dana Joseph Wrigley of Arizona; her daughter, Barbara Arlene Wrigley; her sister, Gloria Lacasse; and two grandchildren.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Dana William Hunkins Jr.
There will be no calling hours. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Ruth's life. Burial will take place this spring at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
Those who wish may make memorial donations in Ruth's name to the American Legion Post 74, P.O. Box 761, Brookline, NH 03033.
