Endowment for Health awards more than $4.6 million in grants over past year

CONCORD — The Endowment for Health awarded more than $4.6 million in grants over the past 12 months, supporting a selection of projects, many focused on civic engagement and community power building across New Hampshire. 

“The Endowment is passionate about promoting the ability of local communities to come together to solve their own challenges and to have meaningful conversations as part of a rich civic life,” said Endowment for Health President Yvonne Goldsberry. “Much of our grantmaking over the past 12 months supported New Hampshire communities to make improvements at the local level. These projects focus on engaging residents in community dialogue so that Granite Staters have a say in how their communities can thrive,” Goldsberry added.

Over the past 12 months, the Endowment’s funding totaled $4,662,581, representing 65 grants to 44 organizations with an average award size of $71,732, including the City of Laconia.

Trust Making Community Engagement Initiative

A total of $80,000 has been awarded to four communities as part of an effort to build greater resident connections and trust-building across difference

• Granite State Organizing Project, Inc., Manchester — $20,000
• City of Nashua Division of Public Health and Community Services — $20,000
• Keene Family YMCA — $20,000
• City of Laconia — $20,000

Patient Engagement in Narrative Shifting

Two organizations were awarded a total of $20,000 to bring patient voices into a public conversation about lowering health costs and improving access to health care.

• Rights & Democracy Institute — $10,000
• Engage New Hampshire — $10,000

Leadership New Hampshire, Living Room Conversations — $11,900 to provide facilitated discussion at a series of regional events focused on local solutions and collaboration

Keene Housing Kids Collaborative, 2024 Annual KHKC Benefit Breakfast Keynote — $3,000 to educate community members about research on adverse childhood experiences and the "HOPE: Health Outcomes From Positive Experiences" framework

Greater Manchester Family YMCA, Communities that Care Conference — $3,025 to unite communities with existing mental health coalitions and those interested in starting them

Granite State Organizing Project, Young Organizers United — $35,000 to develop the leadership skills and civic engagement of High School youth of color in the Manchester/Nashua School Districts through leadership training, mentoring and supporting student-designed and led campaigns for educational equity

Conservation Law Foundation, Building Capacity for Environmental Justice in New Hampshire — $50,000 to build an environmental justice movement in New Hampshire that engages low-income communities and communities of color by establishing and supporting environmental advocacy throughout the state

University of New Hampshire, Culturally Responsive Care in NH — $73,348 to enhance equitable access and cultural responsiveness to behavioral healthcare for children, youth and families, particularly those in the African American, Latino/Latina, refugee and immigrant, and disability communities in NH

Health Strategies of New Hampshire, NH Poverty, Vulnerability, Rurality & Resilience Initiative — $30,000 to identify potential solutions to address poverty and vulnerability in NH by implementing unique approaches in pilot communities and/or populations identified through a NH-specific data review and methodology
