HOLDERNESS  The Squam Lake Natural Science Center is offering multiple activities and events in April.

Join them on Wednesday, April 8, for a drop-in workshop on upcycling, “The Art of Upcycling.” SLA will show patrons how to turn everyday discarded materials into imaginative sculptures, mosaics and characters. Lakes Region Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Member, Macie Kane, will lead the program.

This event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. All materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring clean recyclables from home to incorporate into their designs.

On Wednesday, April 15, from 1 to 3 p.m., join the Squam Lakes Association for a hands-on program, “Adventure Art Life Under Glass: DIY Biosphere in a Jar.”

Patrons will walk around the SLA campus and collect the essential resources for plants and microbes to thrive in a self-sustaining ecosystem. Then, they will make their own.

Those who attend are advised to wear clothing and footwear that can get dirty. Necessary supplies will be provided.

On Saturday, April 18 from noon to 2 p.m., join the Squam Lakes Association in helping kick off National Park Week with “Conservation & Cinema: Lessons from Jellystone.”

The program will start with an interactive screening of “Yogi Bear.” While the movie plays, children will get to sketch their favorite plants and animals and use ranger report cards to grade Yogi’s outdoor etiquette. The program will finish by exploring the real-life "jellystones" found throughout Holderness and the Squam Lake watershed.

Though this program will be held primarily indoors, wearing warm, comfortable clothing is recommended. Snacks and coloring materials will be provided. This program is geared toward children ages eight and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

All these events will be held at 534 Route 3.
