LACONIA — Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center is kicking off a new 2025 Winter Speaker Series with a lineup of educational programs meant to connect the community to the region’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
New England Stone Walls with Kevin Gardner, kicks off the series on Saturday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m.-noon. Gardner, author of “The Granite Kiss,” will discuss the fascinating history behind the iconic New England stone walls. Learn how they were built, how their styles evolved over time, and their significance to New England’s landscape. Gardner will build a miniature stone wall live during the program.
Fruit Tree Pruning will take place Saturday, March 15, 10 a.m.–noon. Attendees will get hands-on experience pruning apple and pear trees. This interactive demonstration, led by UNH Extension home horticulture educators, covers everything from tool maintenance to pruning techniques and safety tips.
What Birds Can I Expect to Find Here will take place Thursday, March 20, 5:30-7 p.m. Dive into the world of local birds with UNH Professor Matthew Tarr. This video presentation explores New Hampshire’s diverse habitats and their feathered inhabitants, offering tips on identifying common species by sight and sound. A live Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Maple Sugar Bush Management will take place Saturday, March 22, 1-4 p.m. Attendees will step into the sweet world of maple sugaring. Join UNH Extension Forest Resource Specialists Lindsay Watkins and Steve Roberge for an in-depth look at managing sugar bushes. Attendees will learn sustainable practices to maximize sap production and benefit local wildlife.
