Old Home Week celebrations in Alton Bay have changed

ALTON BAY — For many decades, Barbershop singers have gathered at Alton Bay in August to bring sweet harmony to the Lakes Region as part of the Old Home Week celebrations. Because of Covid 19, the Old Home Week plans have been cancelled.

There will still be Harmony at the Lake this year. Friday afternoon, Aug. 20, singers will gather in Alton where they will enjoy a pot luck supper at 6 p.m. and informal socializing and singing. On Saturday morning many will take part in the annual Joe Kopka Memorial miniature golf classic, held on Saturday morning, Aug. 21 in Alton Bay.

Following the golf tournament on Saturday, many of them are planning to travel to Meredith to visit the Archie Park in downtown Meredith where they will present a free program of barbershop and acapella singing at 2 p.m. There will also be a second performance at the Hesky Park on the green in Meredith at 3 p.m.

Both programs will be about 45 minutes long and will feature popular male, female and mixed quartets from New England and the Northeast. Quartets planning to participate are: Rhythm Method, JOES and JILLS, Synchrony, High Rollers and a new unnamed male quartet.

Following the performances in Meredith, the singers will return to Alton Bay for more singing and an afterglow party at the Sandy Point Resort.

Come out and enjoy these free performances and support Harmony at the Lake.
