LACONIA — This summer marks the eleventh season that Got Literacy Laconia has been delivering literacy materials to Got Lunch Laconia families.
Each week, children receiving Got Lunch food bags will also find a special treat to encourage them to keep reading, writing, and learning during the summer. This year’s offerings include books, magazines, journals, and watercolor kits. Much of the material is aligned with the National Library summer reading theme, “Color Our World.”
This year’s Got Literacy Laconia distributions have been made possible as a result of grants from the Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction, the Oleonda Jameson Trust, the Daniell Fund, and individual donors.
In addition, a grant from the Children’s Literacy Foundation has been awarded to Got Literacy Laconia and the Laconia Public Library, which will fund a professional storytelling event on Monday, July 21, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at the Laconia Public Library.
After the storytelling presentation, the children will be able to select two free books to take home. All Laconia children up to age 12 are invited to attend.
