Gilford High School Theatre reveals fall production of ‘Into the Woods’

GILFORD — Gilford High School Theatre reveals its fall production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s beloved musical, "Into the Woods," with performances scheduled for Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 20-21, at 7 p.m. in the Gilford High School Auditorium.

This year’s production is off to a fantastic start, with 26 talented actors joining the cast. The group features a wonderful mix of returning theater students and new members to the Gilford High School Theatre program, creating an exciting and diverse ensemble.

The first weeks of rehearsal have been extremely successful. The cast has already demonstrated tremendous dedication, hard work, and enthusiasm for the production. Students are becoming deeply invested in their characters and the world of "Into the Woods," and the production team is excited about the direction the show is taking.

"Into the Woods" weaves together several classic fairy tales — including "Cinderella," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Little Red Riding Hood," and "Rapunzel" — and asks what happens after the stories we all know come to an end. When a Baker and his wife journey into the woods to break a curse and start a family, they encounter familiar characters whose wishes and choices become intertwined. What begins as a collection of fairy tales becomes a thoughtful and entertaining story about wishes, consequences, family, community, and the responsibilities that come with getting what we want.

The production is being led by an experienced and dedicated creative team: Matt Demko, director and producer; Aidan Lamont, music director; Scott Piddington, technical director; Karen Madon, costume designer; Prezley Adair, character building and line support; and Heidi Noyes Bourgeois, choreographer.

With a talented cast, a dedicated production team, and a story filled with humor, heart, music, and plenty of theatrical magic, Gilford High School Theatre is looking forward to bringing "Into the Woods" to the stage this fall.
