Belmont High School senior completes ski patrol training program

Belmont High School senior Mathias Krauchunas gave his final presentation for his extended learning opportunity on Thursday, Jan. 16. He took an 11-week outdoor emergency care course developed by the National Ski Patrol at Gunstock in the fall, passing the national certification exam in November. In addition, he kept a journal through his training time, reflecting on what he was learning. He also addressed essential questions related to how people use the certification in various professions, why 21st century skills are important in ski patrol work, and his own individual career plan after graduation. This spring, Krauchunas plans to take an EMT course; he is looking forward to starting training with the U.S. Coast Guard next summer.
