LACONIA — Lakes Region Community Developers bought the Walter’s Market building at 193 Court St., and is renovating it to serve as LRCD’s new headquarters. LRCD plans to move into the space by August.

The first phase of renovations includes build-out of the interior to accommodate 10 offices, community meeting space, and a kitchen. Also planned in the first phase are upgrades to the exterior south wall of the building, installation of windows, additional insulation, and new siding. Tradesman Builders of Laconia is the general contractor. The project is funded by a Community Development Block Grant from New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority and a loan from Meredith Village Savings Bank.

LRCD is planning a future second phase to complete the exterior treatment as well as resurface the parking lot, landscaping and signage improvements. Fundraising is ongoing for phase two.

“Our new building will provide LRCD staff and volunteers with more functional space in which to work and it will enable us to provide new programming that is needed in the community,” said LRCD Executive Director Carmen Lorentz. “As a nonprofit community development organization, we are thrilled to be redeveloping a vacant building into a vibrant hub of activity. It’s what we do best.”
