LACONIA – The Weirs Beach Pier has always offered ice cream, arcade games and a front row view of Lake Winnipesaukee, but it wasn’t until this summer season that it began offering homemade pizza and Texas barbecue.

Directly up the stairs from the Weirs Pier docks, Sal’s Pizza and the Traveling Texas Smoke Shop at the Weirs are open providing food daily starting at 11 a.m. Both restaurants plan on running through Labor Day, according to their managers.

Sal’s Pizza has been in the Lakes Region for many years and has become known for their 19-inch custom pizzas. With the new location at the Weirs Pier, Sal's Pizza has the unique opportunity to provide boaters with pizza delivery right to the docks. Those who would to order a pizza for the boat to go are encouraged to call ahead roughly 15 to 20 minutes in advance to place the order. Once the order has been made, it will be brought down to the boat for payment and pick up.

“The boat service delivery is just starting up and not many people know about it,” said Ross Tine, manager of the restaurant. “We hope that once people hear about it they will start ordering by boat more throughout the summer.”

Tine added that there will be a sign put up in the coming weeks that informs boaters of their pizza delivery option.

Sal’s Pizza offers various custom slices and full pizzas, including Chicken Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, Barbecue Chicken, Veggie, and more. Specialty 19-inch pies range from $20.99 through $23.99 depending on the toppings. Slices are available for all custom pizzas and can be purchased in advance or at the window of the pizza shop.

The restaurant is offering fried dough at the pier, which is unique to the Weirs Beach location. Other desserts and soft drinks are available for purchase.

Next door, the Traveling Texas Smoke House has brought the taste of Texas straight from Fort Worth to Laconia. The restaurant offers a wide assortment of meat meals including a pulled pork sandwich, chopped brisket, racks of ribs, and smoked chicken. All dishes are made original Texas style and are cooked fresh daily.

“We started out in Texas but it got too hot in the summer to stand by the brisket, so we decided to bring our business up to New Hampshire for the summers,” said Chris Bell, manager of the restaurant. “So far it has been a great start and we hope to be back next summer too.”

Boats can dock at the Weirs Pier and have Sal's Pizza deliver directly to their watercraft. To place an order call 527-8075. (Alana Persson)
