The body recovered Monday from Lake Winnisquam near Mosquito Bridge has been identified by the Tilton Police Department as Anthony Costa, 45, of Tilton.
“It’s a fine line right there for Sanbornton, Belmont and Tilton,” said Sgt. Andrew Salmon of the Tilton Police Department. “We were dispatched out there at 2:47 for a missing persons call. That’s why we were there.”
Personnel from the Belmont Fire Department, New Hampshire Fish and Game, NH State Police and Marine Patrol joined in the search effort. Marine Patrol launched a craft from Winnisquam Marine. Fish and Game divers conducted a brief search beneath Mosquito Bridge and located Costa’s body at 4:45 p.m.
Fish and Game Capt. Michael Eastman described the investigation as "pretty much over with."
No autopsy results had been reported Tuesday, nor had an official cause of death been declared by authorities.
Salmon said he didn't know which agency was in charge of the investigation. “There was a bunch of various agencies involved,” he said.
"A lot of times it is a shared investigation, for lack of a better term," said Lt. Crystal McLain of Marine Patrol. "There’s differences in the jurisdiction and investigative portion. Fish and Game would be responsible for search and rescue in drowning or cases like this, Marine Patrol and local jurisdiction would be responsible for the investigative side. Circumstances can also dictate exactly what happens."
