MOULTONBOROUGH — A new ladies golf league has formed in Moultonborough.

A League of Our Own is ready to start the season on Monday, June 4, at 3 p.m. at Ridgewood Country Club in Moultonborough. Play will continue each Monday, weather permitting, at Ridgewood or another local course.

A League of Our Own is an independent ladies golf league and is not affiliated with Ridgewood Country Club or any other local course. Currently, 29 ladies of all ages and golf abilities have signed on. It is proving to be a popular group.

Each week, the ladies play nine holes of golf, then relax to a light meal at a local restaurant such as Buckey’s. It is a fun night out with a group of ladies who like to play golf and share a few laughs.

The group is open to all, and new members are welcome.

The league operates on a quota format which allows for more flexibility for busy ladies. A formal handicap is not required to join the league.

It is pay as you play, and each week, in addition to relevant green and cart fees, there will be $5 collected from each player, with $2 going toward that week’s prizes (i.e. Closest to the Pin), and $3 will go towards the season-ending contest for the highest quota points.

For those not familiar with quota, it is based on points earned by each player. A par earns 3 points, a bogey is worth 2 Points, a Double Bogey is worth 1 Point, a Birdie is worth 4 points and an Eagle is worth 5 points.

New four-player teams will be assembled every week, and team points as well as points for attendance will be awarded. No subs are required using this format, as the ladies play to improve their individual total points toward the final standings. High-handicap golfers and low-handicap golfers have a chance at beating their total points, and earning bonus points.

Each week, there also will be fun contests for Closest to the Pin, Most Accurate Layup, Longest Putt Sunk, Most Fairways Hit, Fewest Putts, Chip Ins and Birdies. In addition, players will be able to buy a “Snowball” which allows them to get out of a sand trap with a single toss of the ball. This comes in handy for our players! If you are interested in joining the league, or for more information, contact Janet White at If you plan to play, just let Janet know a week in advance that you want to play on the following Monday; it’s that simple. It is a fun way to meet other women who enjoy playing golf.
