Linda Terwilliger: After two months, Trump has done nothing to help American people

After two months in office, Donald Trump has done nothing to help the American people. He has done nothing to lower food, energy or housing prices. Thanks to Trump’s trade war, American consumers and businesses will pay much more for everything we buy.

Trump’s reckless actions are not about reducing the federal budget or increasing efficiency. Instead, he has been very busy executing Project 2025, as he digs in to cement his power and take over.

He has illegally sidelined Congress and has not yet fully complied with court orders to reverse his actions. He put Elon Musk in charge of gutting essential federal services to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy. Republican lawmakers in Congress are silent, fearful of retribution.

Federal programs that millions of Americans depend are on Trump’s chopping block including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Trump’s plan to dismantle the Department of Education jeopardizes a range of essential programs including funding to low-income schools and support services for students with disabilities.

Project 2025 is the ultra-conservative blueprint for replacing our democratic government with an authoritarian regime. The plan mandates the end to democracy and our democratic rights including our right to personal agency, based on an archaic conservative Christian doctrine. All of us could lose our rights to religious freedom, free speech, and free and fair elections. Sections of the plan are especially chilling for women, the elderly, the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, people with disabilities and others.

Without the Constitutional guardrails, the rule-of-law and federal regulations, our civil, consumer, worker, political and environmental rights are at risk. As a result, all of us are more vulnerable to exploitation and corruption by bad actors.

We must unite and raise our voices against the dangerous downslide into absolute tyranny orchestrated by one man hell-bent on being a king.
