Motorcyclist injured in crash with minivan in Belmont

BELMONT — A 33-year-old Laconia resident sustained serious leg injuries when his motorcycle collided with a minivan on Thursday afternoon.

Police say Roger Tozier was northbound on his motorcycle when Wanda Smith of Belmont, who was southbound in her minivan, attempted to make a left turn from Route 106 to East Gate Park. While there is a dedicated turn lane, Smith “apparently misjudged which lane she was actually in” and crossed into the northbound travel lane in front of Tozier, who could not avoid impact with the front of the minivan.

Emergency personnel who responded to the call at 4:46 p.m., stabilized Tozier at the scene and took him to Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. From there he was airlifted to a medical center, and police were unsure of his condition on Friday morning.

Smith was uninjured, but police say both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The Belmont Police Department is still investigating the crash and asks that anyone with information about the incident call 603-267-8350.
