GILFORD — Seven people were taken into custody when police broke up an underage drinking party.

Police went to a residence on Chestnut Drive shortly after 2:15 a.m. Sunday after they received a report of an assault, according to Deputy Chief Kris Kelley.

Five people were charged with underage possession of alcohol, and two men, one 21 the other 22, were taken into protective custody for intoxication.

Those charged, according to police, included a 17-year-old juvenile, who was turned over to the custody of an adult. The others were identified as Sophia C. Sherkanowski, 20, of 20 Chestnut Drive, Gilford; Emily Bell, 18, of 12 Breton Road, Apt. 1, Gilford; Brycen E. Martin, 19, 100 Sheridan St., Laconia; and Brenden Mooney, 20, 66 Gillette St. They were also placed in protective custody for being intoxicated.
