LACONIA — It was a successful election for most incumbents in contested primary elections for local state House representatives on Tuesday.

In GOP primaries:

In Belknap District 2, which covers Gilford and Meredith, incumbent Glen Aldrich advanced to the November general election, along with Harry Bean, Deanna Jurius and Jonathan Mackie.

In Belknap District Four, which covers Sanbornton and Tilton, incumbents Dennis Fields and Timothy Lang advanced to the general.

In Grafton District 9, which takes in Alexandria, Ashland, Bridgewater, Bristol and Grafton, incumbent Vincent Migliore advanced, as did Ned Gordon.

In a Democratic primary, there appeared to be an exception to the incumbent trend.

Steven Rand, the third-generation owner of a hardware store in downtown Plymouth and outspoken opponent of the Northern Pass proposal, apparently failed to advance in Grafton District 8, which covers Hebron, Holderness and Plymouth. Suzanne Smith, also an incumbent, advanced, as did Sallie Fellows. Joyce Weston apparently was the third nominee from the district, with 637 votes, while Rand had 615.
