MEREDITH — Police have charged a California man with drunken driving after a single-vehicle accident early Monday morning near the Route 3 rotary.

Meredith Police Detective Cpl. John Eichhorn said a car driven by Clayton Cunningham, 31, of Sugarloaf, California, drove over the central island of the roundabout before stopping a short distance to the south on Route 3 at 12:10 a.m. Monday.

Cunningham faces a charge of aggravated DWI, meaning his blood alcohol content was 0.16 or higher — at least twice the legal limit.

Cunningham’s car, which had four flat tires, was towed from the scene.
