WOLFEBORO — A local resident faces drunk driving and other charges after a single-vehicle accident.
Wolfeboro police arrested Jacob Harzbecker, 28, of Wolfeboro on Saturday and charged him with driving while intoxicated, reckless operation and using a hand-held cell phone while driving.
According to police, Harzbecker told Senior Patrolman Pat Spera that he was using his cellphone while driving on Route 28 shortly after 3 p.m. and became distracted, whereupon his vehicle struck a guardrail, then ricocheted across the highway and smashed into a snowbank.
Spera detected the odor of alcohol on Harzbecker’s breath. After failing a field sobriety test, he was charged with DWI. He later told police he had had two mixed drinks about 45 minutes before the crash, police said.
Harzbecker refused medical treatment at the scene. He was transported to Carroll County House of Corrections and is now scheduled to appear in Third Circuit Court-District Division-Ossipee on March 13.
