Rob Rausch won Season 4 of The Traitors without ever having seen the show before. He also tells TV Insider he had “no strategy” going into the game.

“I had never watched the show before, so all my strategy basically just came from playing Mafia growing up,” Rausch reveals. “I also realized it’s a social game, so you kind of have to make your strategy based on the people you’re with. So there’s really no point in coming up with a game plan.”

He says he found it “better to just not have a plan and make it up as you go” because “everyone’s got a plan until you get hit in the mouth.” Once he started getting to know his castmates, he was able to “formulate how [I wanted] things to go.”

Rausch was able to use his charm to build trust with the other players, so nobody suspected that he could possibly be a traitor, which helped him get to the final bonfire. Looking back at the entire season, Rausch says his best move was probably agreeing to murder Colton Underwood, despite having formed a close relationship with him on the show.

“I think that made me look very faithful, and it made Candiace [Dillard Bassett] look not so faithful,” he admits. “I think I played that really well because I acted like I didn’t want to murder Colton in that moment, but I really thought it was a good idea [to do it] for my gameplay.”

Despite coming in with minimal Traitors knowledge, Rausch points out, “I’m really good at games. I’m a fast learner, and I’m very coachable,” which made him able to adapt quickly.

“The only thing I did not realize was when you’re the last traitor, and it’s not towards the end, you have to ultimatum somebody [to become a Traitor],” the Love Island USA alum shares. “You have to do it. I thought I could just go solo to the end.”

He ended up choosing Eric Nam to bring in as a traitor. “My original plan was to pick no one and keep going solo [if I could], but I’m glad I picked him,” Rausch reflects. “I think it helped.”
