Miles Smith Farm

Gina finally gave birth on Dec 13th to the last Miles Smith Farm calf of 2021. Meet this little boy and Rudolph the Red-Nosed-ReinSteer on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 23 and 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reserve your spot at MilesSmithFarm.com/farm-events.

This has been a super year to be a farmer. I'm thrilled that many of you have switched to buying local meat from Miles Smith Farm and other beef farms like ours. Some regulars, like Bill Hart, trek to our farm store in Loudon every week to pick up their favorite cuts. The survival of local farms depends on your support and, ever since the pandemic's arrival, folks have been flocking to farms like cows crowding around a hay feeder.

Life is good on the farm, but there is always room for improvement, so I asked Bruce to help me write a wish list to send to Santa. Here it is:

1. Fences that bounce cows back into the pasture instead of breaking or getting tangled.

2. Calves that are born without human assistance and nurse on their own, every time.

3. Boots that don't get sucked off by mud.

4. A knife in my coat pocket every time I need to open hay bales.

5. A hat that doesn't get lost.

6. Right-hand gloves (to match the 100 left-hand gloves I have).

7. A tractor that never breaks, especially in sub-zero weather when the cows need feeding.

8. A small video camera worn by every cow to see what they are up to.

9. A clairvoyant husband who knows when I have changed my mind and what my unspoken thoughts and plans are.

10. A wife that just silently backs away when I'm trying to sort out some mystifying software glitch.

And most of all, a joyous Christmas for everyone.

If a visit with Rudolph is on your child's Christmas list, I can help. There is still time to sign up for Christmas Eve with Rudolph the Red-Nosed ReinSteer and his barnyard friends. You can register here: https://milessmithfarm.com/farm-events.
