MEREDITH — Norma Lorraine Moulton Glidden Hughes, 86, of Meredith passed away on Oct. 31, 2019, at the Belknap County Nursing Home in Laconia.
Born in Wolfeboro on June 22, 1932, she was the daughter of Leila F Cram Moulton Gillooly Jackson and Charles W. Moulton. She attended Humiston School, also known as Meredith High School, in 1946-1950.
She joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged as corporal.
She returned home and worked at the Castle in the Clouds and then in the family restaurant business at Hi There Café.
She then married, moved to Laconia, and worked at the hospital as a nurse’s aide. She moved back to Moultonborough, went to work for E.M. Heath’s Hardware, and became manager of the Meredith store.
She was the organist and choir director for the Moultonborough Methodist Church for approximately 10 years, helped establish a nursery school in the church, and was an assistant leader for the Moultonborough 4-H Club during the early 1960s. Upon marrying James Hughes, she moved to Meredith and became the organist for Trinity Episcopal Church for 18 years. She was an Eastern Star member and on the Inter-Lakes High School Boosters committee.
She is survived by her five children, Frances Mudgett, Carol Brace, and Lorraine Miller; stepsons David and Thomas Hughes; and her nine grandchildren, Melissa Sullivan, Raymond Mudgett, Kevin Brace, Jennifer Newton, Kimberly Ramsey, Benjamin Selleck, Christopher Cakars, Abraham Hughes, and Elizabeth Fullerton; along with 13 great-grandchildren and many other nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will take place at Trinity Episcopal Church in Meredith on Friday, Nov. 8, at 11a.m. The Rev. Robin Soller, Rector, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mason Cemetery, Moultonborough.
